On 29 April 2021, the European Parliament passed a resolution against religious persecution in Pakistan. Pakistan’s eligibility for GSP+ has been called into question over human rights abuses. Since being selected for the trade incentives program, religious persecution and human rights abuses have increased across Pakistan. Concerning CPEC, official findings confirm that most harm has been done against the people of Sindh and Balochistan. EU’s Member states have been called upon to actively support religious minority communities and pressure the Pakistani government to protect its religious minorities through legal and social means. It is heartening to witness organizations such as the UNPO and the World Sindhi Congress’ efforts to share investigations and reports on human rights with the EU resulting in some tangible outcomes.
