This year’s conference will take place at the University of Westminster Harrow Campus, London, UK on Saturday, October 27, 2018. For the past 29 years, the World Sindhi Congress has brought together international activists, academics, analysts, and policy makers to highlight the difficult human rights situation in Sindh. Through panel discussions, presentations, workshops, and networking events, the Annual Conference on Sindh seeks to provide an international forum to analyze and discuss the latest research and developments within the province and the human rights field in order to best address the current issues facing Sindhis. The theme of this year’s conference will be “State Terrorism in Sindh: Enforced Disappearance Causes and Consequences.” The use of enforced disappearance to sow fear and stifle voices of opposition is not a new phenomenon in Pakistan. However, the government’s use of this tactic has seen a dramatic rise in recent years in Sindh. Despite the creation of the Commission on Enforced Disappearance, little has been done to address the ongoing rights violations and not a single perpetrator has been tried in a court of law. As the number of disappeared persons rise, Sindhis and the global community are seeking answers and action from the government. We look forward to seeing you at the 30th Annual Conference on Sindh “State Terrorism in Sindh: Enforced Disappearance Causes and Consequences.” Sincerely, Dr. Hidayat Bhutto, Conference Chair
