LONDON, UK, 21 AUGUST 2011:
Press Release
On 21st August Save Sindh Rally was held in London in front of British Prime Misters residence. The rally was organised by World Sindhi Congress in collaboration with Sindhi Sangat UK, Baloch Human Rights Council UK and International Voice for Missing Baloch persons. The rally was held to show solidarity with Sindhi people’s current democratic struggle for restoration of the historical status of Karachi and Hyderabad and against any form of division of Sindh.
The rally was widely attended by Sindhis and Balochs from all over the UK. Dr Hidayat Bhutto, Abdul Jabar Qureshi, Samad Baloch, Shahsawar Baloch, Mir Ghulam Hussain, Hafeezan Wadhio, Sasuie Laghari, Abdullah Baloch, Sattar Soomro, Gul Sanai and Lakhu Luhana addressed the rally. Faiz Baloch spoke on behalf of Harbyair Marri, who was out of the country.
The speakers strongly supported Sindhi people’s genuine democratic demand to restore the historical status of Karachi and Hyderabad. They condemned the cowardice and everyday changing stand of People’s party who in their manifesto clearly mentioned to revoke the so-called local government system imposed by military dictator general Musharaf. The system was rejected by the entire Sindh people as it is anti-democratic, anti-humane and anti-Sindhi people. As a result of this system five districts of Karachi were amalgamated in one and much smaller Hyderabad district was divided into four. Moreover, the complete hegemony of Karachi and Hyderabad was handed over to MQM. The speakers condemned MQM who completely removed Sindhi and Baloch people from the development process and want to keep their anti-democratic, disproportionate hegemony at any cost resorting to one of the worst violence seen in recent years. The speakers strongly condemned the target and terrorist killing of numerous Sindhi and Baloch people. The Speakers also condemned the commando style attack on Sindhi villages involving hundreds of terrorists.
The speakers requested all the spheres of Sindhi society including political parties, civil society organisations, intellectuals and writers to fight against the fascism in order to save the future of the future generation and to bring peace for the current generation of people of Sindh.
A delegation including Dr Hidayat Bhutto, Nisar Gilal, Samad Baloch, Shahsawar Baloch, Sultan Mahar, Ali Memon and Lakhu Luhana submitted a letter to British prime Minster at 10 Downing Street. The letter requested the Prime Minster to take some concrete actions to repeal the impression of Sindhi people about the support to MQM. The letter reiterated that Sindhi people are historically secular people who are at the forefront of struggle against religious extremism and MQM’s anti-democratic and terrorists methods would weaken the peaceful and progressive political forces and will ultimately damage the spirit of war on terror in the region.
