For his Sindhiness, he was castigated and reprimanded by his ill-advised non-Sindhi peers and teachers and the dictatorial Governments of the day.
The Topic: Option For Sindh And Balochistan – Survival
The world is moving at a tremendous pace, countries and nations are coming closer and closer to each other – this beautiful world of ours is becoming one and a huge village. Globalisation is the call of the day; multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-lingual systems and principles are in place; cultures and traditions are fusing within each other and history is being revisited, revised, reviewed and re-written.
The great nations of Sindh and Balochistan are at the crossroads of history. They are trying to find themselves and their souls. They are struggling to have their destinies in their own hands, striving for freedom, peace and equality and screaming for justice, love, respect and understanding.
In order to preserve their values, culture, history, language and way of life Sindh and Balochistan have just one option – Survival.
The Background:
In 1947 India won its freedom from ruthless colonial power and had to pay a huge price in so doing – it was truncated and a theocratic state came into being on the basis of religion known as Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Sindh was obscenely and immorally duped into becoming part of this new country. Balochistan was forced, through the show of Martial might, use of guns, bullets and sabre-rattling into joining the new state. Popularly, both Sindh and Balochistan were reluctant participants into Pakistan.
Throughout the history of Pakistan, the Army, which was predominantly from Punjab, carried out its campaign of tyranny, brutality and barbarism against hapless, simple, unarmed Sindhis, Balochs and Bengalees. In the streets of Chattagong and Dacca The then East Pakistan) I, myself with my own eyes, saw the animals of the Pakistani Army rape innocent girls, kill and murder Bengalee men, women, and children and commit atrocities for which even the word ‘genocide’ is too a simplistic word to use.
In 1971, after bloodshed and terror Bangladesh came into being and Pakistan ceased to exist as an independent Islamic Republic. It lost its moral and legal authority to remain as a sovereign country.
The Present Situation:
Sindh and Balochistan continued to suffer in the hands of belligerent and blood-thirsty Pakistani Army. Both Sindh and Balochistan, so rich in natural resources like oil, gas, coal, minerals, agricultural products, wheat, rice, etc., are today impoverished dying a slow, painful death. The two greatest International General Cargo and Containerised Cargo Ports – Karachi and Bin Qasim are in Sindh. The world-class Fishing Ports of Ormarra and Pasni and now a gigantic Oil, Gas and General cargo Port of Gwadar are all in Balochistan. Yet, Sindh and Balochistan are deprived of any Ports tremendous revenue. All economic fortunes from these Ports are taken up North to Punjab and Islamabad.
Land grabbing is going on viciously in Sindh where thousands of acres of land has been illegally and forcefully misappropriated by the Punjabis and Army Jawans. No water in Indus – the breadbasket of Sindh – Sindhis are thirsty. Land is parched and dying – desertification is rampant. Influx of illegal Biharis from India and Bangladesh into Sindh has turned Sindhis into a minority in their own home.
Freedom Fighters in Balochistan continue to be massacred by the Barbarians of the Punjabi Army. Innocent Sindhis and Balochs continue to disappear. Everyday rapes of young Sindhi girls by the Punjabi Army officers continue unabated and with impunity.
Rich and vast natural resources of both Sindh and Balochistan being squandered.
Sindhis and Balochs continue to suffer in education and jobs. Balochi and Sindhi languages under serious threat of extinction. Sindhi and Balochi values, traditions, way of life and culture being polluted by the aliens. Tyranny in full swing – Sindhis being ejected from their villages and their homes destroyed.
