London: The World Sindhi Congress (WSC) is organizing their 18th international conference on Sindh with a particular focus on “Forced Disappearances and Extrajudicial Killings of Activists and Journalists in Sindh and Balochistan” on Saturday, 28 October 2006, in London , UK .
The conference is in response to the unprecedented onslaught of the Pakistani military dictatorship against activists struggling for democracy and human rights in the Sindhi and Baloch nations. The conference aims to address the following issues:
- Military rule and the question of democracy and social justice in Pakistan
- Violation of human rights, and the safety and security of political activists and journalists in Pakistan
- Military rule and Islamic extremism in Pakistan
- International situation and secular struggles of disadvantaged people in Pakistan
- International donations to Pakistan and their use
- Situation of women and their economic, social and political rights in Pakistan
The conference will work to channel the voice of international human rights groups and the concerns of the international community in order to put pressure on Pakistan’s military regime to comply with the UN charter of human rights and respond positively to the democratic struggles of the Sindhi and Baluch people.
