A meeting of the World Sindhi Congress was held in London on the 14th November 1998. It was presided over by Mr Umed Ali Laghari, Acting WSC Chairman.
The Executive Committee of the WSC discussed the current socio-political situation in Sindh, with particular emphasis on the
role of progressive organisations under the Governor rule. Once again the meeting condemned the imposition of the Governor rule and suspension of the elected assembly by the federal government.
Dr Saghir A. Shaikh Deputy Secretary General of World Sindhi Congress, presented a summary report on his recent visit to Sindh. During his visit, he met officers representing a number of progressive Sindhi organisations. He discussed various issues of mutual concern and established a basis for collaboration between the World Sindhi Congress and these organisations. Mr Shaikh visited Mr Bashir Khan Qureshi, Chairman JSQM, and offered condolences for the sudden death of his father.
The participation of WSC in the forthcoming UN session on Human Rights in Geneva was also discussed. Finally, the executive committee members were pleased to welcome Ms Ambreen Hisbani to the World Sindhi Congress.
